I created this too fast in Photoshop with the pencil and now need to smooth out and even out this contour…which tool should I use?

1. Select the pencil outline with the Magic Wand tool.
2. Then use Refine Edge to contract and smooth the selection. (Play around until desired outline is achieved.)
3. Save selection.
4. Duplicate image on new layer, removing the pencil outline (rectangular marque select, then fill with black.)
5. Load selection, then fill with white.

Example image, with original on bottom.

Pen tool! Illustrator! (I’d use caps, but I don’t like shouting…) 🙂

Fair enough, but this particular piece cried "vector" so loud I could hear it all the way up to Norway… 🙂

The pen tool will get a perfect job, albeit with a significant time requirement. If it’s the jaggies you wanmt to get rid of, try this:

1) gaussian blur at about 10 pixel radius.
2) use levels to get back to a fine line, minus the jaggies.
3) manual touch up of any areas that lose significant detail, such as the
tophat’s vertical support.
