After an apparent successful install of Photoshop CS4, both with a valid serial number and as a trial, PS crashes at the blue splash screen with "encountered error and needs to close", and just shuts down.
My system is a Core2Quad, 9550, running Vista Ultimate 64, 8 gb ram, with a ATI 4850 512 MB card. This is a virgin computer built for Lightroom 2 (which runs like hell on the machine) and PS, with NO other apps running except virus protection. (AVS? that came with the mother board.)
I have tried every single suggestion in the support files, all of the MB, Vista, and ATI drivers updated, talked to support for one hour, and still no resolution. I do know that it generates the GPUInitfail file, but does still not launch or get any further after it generates that file. I have cleared temp, prefetch, re-installed several times and still nothing.
I am at a loss as to what to do next. Has anyone else had this same problem, and how did you resolve it?
