It’s called the History Log and can be saved to Metadata, a text file or both.

Is there any way to open a file and tell if it was modified or not? I think from the first save. Modify, save, then can you tell what was done before save? Sort of two different ideas. Any way to open a file with anything and tell if pixels were modified??

Only if the "save to Metadata" option has been used.

In the Properties (right-click the file) there will be "Date Created" and "Date Modified" information but this doesn’t tell you anything else.

If the image has been modified in most applications, the metadata should include the name of the application (most likely the last one used) under "Application" — I think this is in one of the sets of Exif data.
