When I’m working with an Alpha mask in Channels, the tones left by the gradient tool have "noise" or specks where the color does not seem to cover the canvas.

If I apply the gradient to the entire image the specks do not appear.

They don’t appear if I mask an area with the lasso tool and apply a gradient, either, it’s only if I use an alpha.

I’m using CS2 on an eMac with a gig of RAM.

Thanks.

Are the "speckles" on the mask itself, or does it make the color area look speckled?

Ed, Thanks for replying. They are on the mask but it affects the colors of the gradient. I used the magic wand tool to create a mask from a flat tonal representation which was superimposed on the original artwork as a separate channel.

It may be with the way the wand is selecting that particular tone. Using the anti alias option for the magic wand seems to help but I didn’t want to start "flipping switches" without knowing what I was doing.
