I posted this on the mac side and was curious to see if CS2 for windows also exhibits this behaviour. Link is here for more info

Text of the original post for duplicating the behaviour follows, with the added info that it should be tried with default white (pressing d, then x to switch white to foreground colour)

make a new cmyk document
select one of the channels (so that only one channel can be edited) select gradient tool, with "dither" option on
set colour to white (all zeros in cmyk) (using default white) pull a gradient
apply a levels adjustment layer, extreme edit, to show the 1% dither that should not be there! Working on a flexo job, I would have messed it up if I had not caught the 1% dot that was being introduced by the edit.
I’ve confirmed this on two different computers. It also happens on the lightness channel of a Lab document. Workaround is to uncheck the dither option. Can anyone else try this out just to confirm
