Been using a version of CS1 to do image work for a year at least on same G5. Process hundreds of images a week. No problems.

Yesterday it says "could not complete your request because of a program error", when I try to open a file. After trying all the usual things, I run cocktail and re-start and it works fine.

Today I process 50 images in the morning. This afternoon I get the same error message and no matter what I try, I can’t get it to open a file.

I fear it may be my machine? Is the drive on the way out? I have no other versions of Photoshop that I can try, but the files open fine on other computers. ‘Preview’ opens the files, I don’t think memory is a problem.

Any ideas would be gratefully received,

Thanks

Does it work in a new user?

I set up a new user and yes it then opens in Photoshop.

So are we saying there’s been some kind of preference corruption with my usual log-in? And this only seems to show itself when opeing files in photoshop?

Obviously it’s not a photoshop or image problem as such.

There is some corruption in you main user account.

first thing I would do is trash the photoshop prefs.

If that does not work duplicate the prefs from the new user account and replace the prefs in the main user.

If that does not work let us know.

tell us if it worked too.

Thanks I’ll give it a try and report back on Monday.

I’m afraid to say it made no difference. It just hangs and gives a ‘photoshop is not responding’ message. Next idea?

If it works in a new user then something is drasticly wrong in the old account.

An Archive and install should fix things.

I have re-installed cs1 and also ps7. Neither will open files.

The computer is working perfectly in all other ways.

It must be a user preference rather than a software preference??

An Archive and install refers to the OS not Photoshop.
