Yes, happens to me all the time. I go to Tools|Cache|Purge Cache for this Folder. That straightens it out by forcing a re-read of the folder. Since refresh obviously doesn’t do it <exasperating sound>.

It is due to how Adobe has implemented the Cache in Bridge. It sux, it rots, I hate it, it drives me mad every day. Other than that, I like it.

I agree – the management and function of the cache files can be a PITA.

I realized this the other day when I added an image file to a folder that had previously been cached. It would not display that file in the Bridge window. So the simplest way to fix this was to delete the cache, and all was well when I next opened that folder.

And for this current problem of not being able to rename the file, the cache certainly appears to be the culprit. When I reopened a file that had been changed, that was enough to trigger the cache update, when I closed it.

I don’t know what the variable is that causes the strange behavior only once in a while.

I hope that in the future Adobe will set things so that the F5 key will force the cache update.

I hope so too Ron.

For me, I add a layer with text that I call a "category layer" on the top of some of the images I process – it helps me sort them for what I’ll be doing with them later, and I just include a step to remove that layer in my action when I process it.

Point is, when Bridge doesn’t update, I miss which images have the layer for sorting and thus, cannot manually sort them. So now it’s a habit to force the cache re-read, because the consequences (for me) are dire.
