text border layerstyle question

Hello,

I have some text paragraph layers in Photoshop that I’d like to apply a layerstyle to such that the layerstyle will put a simple border around the paragraph box, not around the individual characters.

Is there any way to do that? I’ve been tinkering with the Border LayerFX but it always seems to apply directly to the characters themselves.

I know I could make a separate layer that is the same size as my paragraph boxes and put a border on it, but for the workflow I’m using now I’d much prefer that the layerstyle be applied to the text layer itself.

Any help much appreciated.

The "layer box" is only a guide for entering/editing text. You will need to create a new layer the size of the text box and work on that!
