This was a question I posted last week: I just upgraded my Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) to OS 10.2.8 and I have a problem with PS 7.01. Everytime I start it up, I get a dialog box that states " One or more files in the adobe application support folder necessary for running Photoshop under OS X are missing. Please run the Photoshop installer under OS X and reinstall Photoshop or custom install the Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X Tune up". Is there any way to remedy this, and why is it happening? Do I have to go back and reinstall Photoshop? If so, how far do I go back, my last full version of PS is 4.0 or earlier- everything from thereon is an upgrade. Do I have to go all the way back 4.0 and reinstall every version up to 7.0.1? Where do I find the Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X Tune up? I checked the download area, but didn’t see it. Would it be better and easier to use the tune up? Thanks for your help.

What follows was the reply to the question that I posted last week:

It is an option in the Installer under Custom (try clicking on Easy, or whater the default option is, drop down to Custom, select TuneUp)…from memory, but should get you in the right place.
Make sure you run all the 7x updaters.

Well, I tried to run the 7.0.1 installer and there was no way to custom install. A dialog told me it couldn’t find a 7.0 version of PS and I had to quit the install! I have 7.0.1 installed. Again, my last stand alone version of PS was 4.0- everything from there on is an upgrade. How do I rectify the problem I am having?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, the "Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X Tune up" is on your Photoshop 7 CD.

OSX 10.2.8 does not break Photoshop.

just run the PS7 installer CD again and run the tuneup

you can install PS 7 with out a previously installed version present.

You can’t custom onstall an updater.

Be sure to fix permissions before and after all major installs.

I have had the same experience with the tune-up warning. When I run the "Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X Tune up" on the PS 7 installer, the whole process quits for an "unknown reason." Is there any way to get a new or reliable tune-up patch or download? Thank you.

Charles,

Here’s the ultimate reliable way of doing it properly.

Repair Permissions with Apple’s Disk Utility before and after every system upgrade as well as before and after installing any software that uses an installer.

Trash your existing Photoshop folder and Preferences files. Repair Permissions in OS X and stay in OS X through the end. Install Photoshop from scratch in OS X; Repair Permissions again; update to 7.0.1; Repair Permissions once again.
