I have a list of 100’s of names (excel spreadsheet) that I would like to
a) import into photoshop
b) have the names form the number "5"

What is the best way to import the names? (cut and paste?) How can I fill the "5" with the names so that they fill in the entire number in a smooth symetrical pattern.

In other words a large number "5" will be filled with these hundreds of names.

Create a layer for the text you wish to import, use the text tool to draw out a large rectangle, choose a suitable font, colour and size (then you can copy and paste straight into the text box) having created that layer, press Control & ‘c’ to copy the text to the clipboard. Create a new layer above the data text layer and this time select the Horizontal Type Mask tool, then type the number 5 in the font and size you need, move this to where you want it, this will be displayed as an empty selection, then paste straight into that!! It will not show at first until you hide the data layer.

Just type what you need and mask the text with the object in Illustrator

The text doesnt take the shape of the number with your solution… some names would be left out… some names cut off etc.
