I have a background that I am trying to replicate in PhotoShop 7.0.1. It is a Duotone with a dot pattern. All parts of the Duotone has a dot in it. When I try Color Halftone, the light areas turn white with not dots in it. Could anyone help me?

For better responses: Need help is assumed if you post on this forum. Try to be a little more descriptive of the type of help you need in your thread title.

The dot pattern is something like this:

.. . . . . . .
. . . . . .
.. . . . . . .
. . . . . .

The dots do not go in a straight line. Each line is a space over from the line above it.

And the dot very in size depending on the shading of the area it is representing. But there are no more than 21 dots in a square inch.

what you’re describing is typical of a halftone pattern, I understand that.

what I dont understand is "the light areas turn white with not dots in it".

I use photoshop 6.0.1. when I try to select an area with the marquee tool, the selected area just snaps back in place. I can’t seem to move it anywhere in the photo. Any suggestions to fix it?

put it on your server with a link in your post.

I do not have a server.

I don’t know if this will work or not.

Wow, Dick is almost as bad as I am with this web stuff…the address you listed is from your HD, and is only accessible to you.

To be able to post images, you need to have a hosted website. Or maybe someone here will post on theirs for you.
Dick–

email me the image & I will post it for you.

send it to:

of course you need to remove the NOSPAMMERS part from that address.

Dick…

Check with your ISP. Almost all service providers offer some free webspace as part of the subscription.

You probably have at least 10 MB of space just waiting for your files.
Looks like they ran the halftone pattern filter on it.

ahh…In your color picker, you want to have the lighter beige as your foreground color, select the darker brown as the background color.

Then go to filter>sketch>halftone pattern. You may want to futz with the contrast settings a little.

Looks to me like a scanned picture from newsprint or something.

Nahhh…that’s a 3D render. At the very least, the sky was replaced.
Phospher–

I think he is refering to the beige on beige background image.

That’s what I’m assuming – the background image.

I tried the Halftone Pattern but it made the light areas dark and the dark areas light and I am needing the dots to be more pronounced. Any ideas?

Switch your Foreground and Background colors by tapping the "X" key on your keyboard?

Try that, then run the Halftone filter again.

Do what Phosphor said, and increase the contrast in the sketch filter.

Be sure to view at 100% scale.
<it made the light areas dark and the dark areas light>

MAke sure the lighter colour is the forground colour & the darker is the background colour

to make the dots more pronounced.. play with the contrast & the sliders

Is this the look? I worked on the photo on the right.

I created an action with steps if you want it.
