"All the new versions"?
What do you mean? The current version is PS CS [which is, in effect, PS 8]. You can upgrade directly to this from PS 6.
What other options were you considering?
I didn’t realize PS CS was PS8.
What happened to PS7
Thanks
PS7 was discontinued when PS CS came out. (Which is why Colin was confused as to what other options you might have.)
Adobe never supplies more than one version of a program at a time.m(On a changeover period you can occasionally still find old copies in retail stores, so you might see an old PS 7 on the shelves somewhere. If you buy it, make sure you get a healthy discount … I would recommend at least enough to enable you to upgrade for the difference.)
One thing to note…
If you are installing on a Windows platform Photoshop CS states that the required operating system is Windows 2000 or WindowsXP.
When CS first came out I tried to install it on my Windows98 machine and it would not install. I have since upgraded to an XP Box and have upgraded from Photoshop 7 to CS and I am very pleased with it.
I am still using Photoshop 5.5 (on a Win XP system) and want to upgrade. Can I upgrade directly to Photoshop CS?
Can I upgrade directly to Photoshop CS?
Yes.
All versions of PS can be upgraded to the newest version.
Some of the old ones might not be recognized by the installer, though, so a call to Tech Support might be in order to get past that little glitch.
I have photoshop 5.5 and I want to upgrade to CS – I have the CS upgrade program – do I need to get the CS software before I can upgrade to the CS upgrade
Stacey
No. If you have a legitimate version of 5.5 (i.e., not a copy that someone else has registered) then you can upgrade to CS with it.
This is the first version called CS, so it is impossible to upgrade FROM it, so far.
