Is there an Academic, lower cost, version of Photoshop CS?

Photoshop is great, but way too expensive for amateurs, wanting to learn. I currently have Elements, which is nice, but I’d really like to see what CS is all about.

Thanks,

Adobe has a couple of options for try or buy.
-CS has a 30 day trial, which will allow you to play with it enough to decide if it’s your thing.
-You can purchase it full price. (about $900-1000 canadian) -If you’re a full time student you can purchase an educational version (about $300-400 canadian)
Good thing for students is the fact that Adobe will allow you to upgrade to future versions and it will become commercial software. This saves some money in the long run.
-If Photoshop is your thing but the price outweighs your budget, try PanitshopPro 8 by Jasc. Their program isn’t the Photoshop heavyweight but for the price it will do most of what you want.
Of course all this info is on the Adobe site. (except for PaintshopPro of course, how dare i even mention it in a Photoshop forum) James
