batch script howto?

Hi all,

I’m about to use photoshop to automatically generate a bunch of images (let say 10) representing various gaussian blur of a given source image.
Ideally, I would like to run that automatically on many source files without having to interfere with the process.

Is it possible? Do you know where I can find anything similar so that I don’t get a headache trying to find the right syntax?

Quite simple, and no syntactical nightmare. Actions simply note what you do and store the steps. First, since gaussian blur can take a while with large images, I suggest you use a small image to make the steps. So, open any small image in RGB mode. Open the Actions palette. Press the icon next to the trash (means New Action). Give it a name. Do Layers-new layer by copy. Perform the gaussian blurr to a certain degree. You can then perform the same step by pressing control-f now for however many images you want. THEN take Automate – Scripts – Save layers as images. Do that and when it is done, press the STOP button. There is your action.

Close the image without saving. We were just using it to generate an action. Delete the files created by the Save layers as images, too.

Now you can use Automate – Batch upon any number of files at once, or a folder of files. One step. Enjoy.
