Photoshop upgrade from 5.5

I currently have 5.5 on my Dell laptop, and I want the current 7.0 version. DO I need to install the entire 7.7 as a new program, or can I just upgrade and be done with it?

Install 7 as a new application, which is what it defaults to.

and I want the current 7.0 version

CS (version 8) is current.
