Hi, I have a background image like this
<http://www.iconaholic.com/downloads.html#> (scroll right down the bottom to the blue swirly background)

I’d like to keep the swirl lines blue but make the solid parts of the background white. I have tried obvious things like magic wand, some filters, etc. but nothing I try seems to work.

Any suggestions please?
Thank-you.

There are a couple of threads on this forum about changing colors. Go through the adjustment layers and see how they effect a single color. Check out hue/saturation, selective color, even channel mixer.

Looking at that image it’s hard to understand what you want to achieve – it’s all swirl lines!

When I looked at it. I thought the swirled lines were white blended over the blue background.

When I open up the high resolution image in PS the lines look a pale blue. Either way I just want a white version of this instead of blue and for the thin lines to just be the visible part, in a pale blue.

You’d need to do it globally to keep the integrity of the image.

Try Invert, Hue/sat with the Hue slider at 180°, and finish it off with Levels or Curves.

How about this for a radical idea:

Make one of your own! Choose any colors you want!

Nice…but orange?

Here’s my desktop. As you can see, I’m heavily into Zen:

Some people don’t care about busy, or colored Backgrounds (a/k/a "Wallpapers). It might be less of an issue with Windows users because applications usually cover the entire screen area with their own UI.

As a Maccer, the background is often visible, so I just can’t abide busy or bright.

Then again, I really don’t like flat dead gray, so I’ve settled on using calm B+W images. This one comes with the Mac OS, and suits my eyes and brain just fine:

ok thanks freeagent about invert/ hue etc. idea, had a try but couldn’t seem to get it happening. Was interested in these other links to recreate it, thanks. I am wanting it for a web site background. Didn’t realise it was an OS wallpaper though.
The tutorials look good and I’ll have a better read and look later when I have more time and see if I can work out how to do them with white solid parts and the lines blue.
Thank you, you have been helpful.
