nope. no problem here. did you reset your preferences?
Probably the "off screen dialog" again. Indeed, reset the prefs.
Didn’t know SP3 was out for real yet. Recommendable?

I’ve heard today about a possible issue if you use a vpn connection. i’m going to check that out tonight. other than that, no issues for me.
I haven’t read anything about XP/SP3 being a must-have patch. It’s mostly roll-ups of past security patches plus new stuff we’ll never use directly. I would wait at least a month before applying, just to see what problems crop up for others. I am sooooooo past being the early adopter!
even for the reported 10% overall system speed boost? 🙂

"reported" means nothing to me 🙂 experienced is what gets me going.
I too usually wait to see what happens to others, and when the fit hits the shan, I refrain from even trying some newly introduced beverage that’s been adverteased.

Hey Rob, your English is too damn good!
(Do you give lessons to Rumanians?)
lol!
🙂
i’ll report back if i have issues with my vpn w/sp3.
yes, testing from home it appears my vpn connection to work no longer functions with sp3 installed. i’m trying a roll back. will let you know…
ok rolling back to sp2 didn’t solve the problem, but then i rolled back again to a restore point about a week before the sp3 installation and i’m able to get back in. so until ms addresses this i wouldn’t install sp3 on xp if you use a vpn connection.
Hello,
Thanks for the feedback. I did use a CISCO VPN while SP3 was installed and it ran fine. The only problem I had with Adobe products was Photoshop but I hadn’t used any others. When I found it with PhotoShop, I had to remove SP3 to get some work done.

we’re using juniper and symantec for vpn…
Damn XP, mumbly-mumbly Microsoft. 😉
They should really discontinue that dinosaur. <g>

I’ve read that, at some point in the future, SP3 will be shoved up our regular Windows update programme.
This can be good, or bad news. On one hand it might force us to disable Windows Update before this lot comes in automatically, or we may assume that by the time SP3 gets in, the real bugs are out.

Dave (or anyone else who has successfully installed SP3):
First, how long did it take for a successful completion?
I had problems during the "finishing processes" part. Everything seemed to be working fine until the status bar got to about 50 percent and never seemed to go any further. No error messages! It was obvious that something was happening as the disk light kept flashing but after more than an hour (closer to two), the status bar never progressed beyond 50 percent. So, twice, I ended shutting down and rebooting which of course brought up the restore function to revert back to SP2.
Just curious how long the process actually takes. Should I have just let it run overnight or all weekend?

less than an hour for download (cable) and install. and you can work while it’s going. so you’re really only down for the time it takes to reboot.
it sounds like maybe it was trying to update something in use. in that case as long as it hadn’t crashed, and as long as i was able to keep working (and i was) i would let it alone. if i were going to let it sit overnight, i’d probably restart in safe mode and apply it with minimal apps running.
Hmmm. It would not let me work on anything else during the process. I could select something from the Start menu and click on it to run it but after a few minutes, I would get a beep and that would be it. Programs would never run. I couldn’t even close IE.
I also made sure to turn off antivirus and firewall before starting.
This was through Windows Update. I will try the manual download and install method to see if it helps.
Thanks Dave.
no prob. i went through windows update as well though. first it asked me to install a new version of the WGA test tool.
To All:
There is another thread in this forum by someone having the same problem as I had with Photoshop CS2 and Win XP SP3. Does anyone know where I can see what Adobe may be doing [if anything] about this? Thanks.
