Hello group,

I’m a novice user, just learning Photoshop CS3. encounted a puzzling problem.

Recently, without my changing any settings that I know of, any croping of a scanned photo reduces the image to about 1/100th its size. For example, if 1/8th inch is cropped from one side of a 3.5 x 5 inch image, the image becomes about 1/32 inch in overall size.

Any suggestions to remedy this problem would certainly be appreciated. Thank you in advance to anyone who can assist me.

When you select the Crop tool, are there any entries in the width, height or resolution boxes? If so, hit the Clear button.

Dave,

It sounds to me you are using the crop tool to shave bits off your image; you do not use the crop tool in this way.
Whatever you encompass with the tool will become your image, it does not remove it from the image.
In you example you would need to set a crop size of 3.375 inches by 5 inches to achieve your reduction.
