In some folders where I have stored .jpgs, I see the original file (IMG_0181.jpg) and oftentimes I see additional versions of the file, for instance in this case, (IMG_0181_1.jpg, and IMG_0181_2.jpg.)

I am using CS3 on Windows.

When and why does Photoshop make these additional files? How do these new files differ from the original files?

Thanks,
Jeff Romeo

How are these files being created? Save, Save As, Save a version, Save for Web??? What mode were they in when they were being saved (RGB, 16 bit, etc).
