It is possible to determine the image original resolution before resampling was applied?

It is some kind of metafile info that could be checked?
(Or any standard relationship between size in pixels and reso that could afford information?)

Thanks.

Only if the person who created the file chose to include the History in metadata. Highly unlikely in the case of a re-sampled file they may want to pass off as the original.

A trained eye can very often tell just by looking at the image.

Thanks.

I remembered just have read in D. Blatners’ Real World Photoshop something about this but have not the book for now.

But in a heavily manipulated image, it might be difficult to say.

uprezzing a digital capture is much easier to do and less noticeable than uprezzing a film or print scan.

One sign that the image has been tampered with is if the histogram is full of spikes but it’s not 100% because if the image was manipulated in 16bit or 32bit mode and then converted back to 8bit the histogram will look smooth.
