Unless it is a PowerPC issue i would say you have a corrupt font and a corrupt font cache.

I works better then ever here on a MacIntel.

Sounds like a duplicate or corrupted font issue.

Corrupted font cache(s).

Cleaned out and dumped all caches with Cocktail and restarted clean. A-OK now.
