What is the best format to edit pictures in for PSE? I have scanned in pics into jpeg and want to edit them. Should I convert to tiff first and then do all edits/enhancements and then convert back to jpeg?

What would be best when scanning to make edits….scan in tiff first or does it not matter?

Open the jpegs and do whatever edits you want to do to them, but when you save them save them in psd format. When you want to use them for web pages or whatnot you can use the "save for web" option to save in jpeg format, but make sure you save it with a different name to avoid overwriting the original. Alternatively you can write your finished jpegs to a different directory.

Unlike tif or psd, jpg is a lossy format. Every time you save as jpg it causes some loss of quality (amount of loss depends on compression setting). Repetitive save as jpg will compound the quality loss. If you want jpg as final output file, it is best to save as jpg only once, after all editing is done. Scanning, and intermediate editing should be done with save as tif (or psd).
