I have an ICC profile created by my SpyderPro, it is being used by my monitor. (I’ve verified this in Windows XP.

Questions/Assumptions:
I’m using CS2 with images shot with a Canon20d (Camera set RGB), Printer is an HP 8750. Paper for this test is Ilford smooth pearl using Ilford profile IGSPP9_HP8750PHGF_0605v04.icc

1. Should my Photoshop working space be AdobeRGB or the ICC profile that the Spyder produced? I assume AdobeRGB although the image doesn’t seem to look any different on screen either way?

2. When I use Print Preview are the following settings what I should be using? Print Preview, Color Management
Profile: Adobe RGB
Options, Color Handling: let photoshop determine color
Printer profile: IGSPP9_HP8750PHGF_0605v04.icc
Rendering Intent: Relative colormetric

3. Paper/Quality Tab
Type is: HP Prem High gloss film (according to Ilford)
Quality: Best

4. ColorTab:
There are three options here: colorSmart/sRGB
Adobe RGB
managed by Application
I believe I should use managed by application here since I don’t want the printer to do any management???

So in summary, the questions:
Should my working space be AdobeRGB or my custom monitor profile? Is what I have in step 2. and 3. correct?
Am I right on step 4. under color tab, select managed by application?

Thanks,
Joe

AdobeRGB. Your image should have a device-independent profile.

Is what I have in step 2. and 3. correct?

Step 2 and 3 are correct, assuming the printer profile and media are correctly set for the media being used.

Am I right on step 4. under color tab, select managed by application?

Yes.

Ian Lyons, who also happens to be the sysop of the Camera Raw forum, has a good white paper on printing on his web site:

Make sure you read both page 1 and page 3 (page 2 is for Macs). You are following what Ian calls "Workflow 2".
