paste not working

Any idea why I can drag and drop in CS8 and copy usin alt/arrows but when I copy soething and go to paste the paste is greyed out in File. I am alo unable to paste anything in from InDesign.?? Copy/ paste is working in other programs. Have never had trouble before.
