I have PS 7.0 installed onto an Ibook G3 600 with 640mb of Ram, When I start up PS it goes through all the loading up and then gets to ‘reading fonts’ where it crashes, I Have completly wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Mac OS 10.3.4 and then installed PS 7.0 but it still crash’s on start up…any ideas ??

Yes, I have an idea that you need to find the corrupt fonts and remove them.

And you really need to update to 7.0.1.

I Have completly wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Mac OS 10.3.4 and
then installed PS 7.0 but it still crash’s on start up

Just caught that…

At what point of the install did the problem happen?

I assume you rebooted and tested after each addition?

what I mean is that I had the problem after the 1st install of PS.. So i did a bit of trouble shooting and didnt come up with much, I then wiped my HD and installed PS onto it as the 1st application, It still crashed on start up though.

I am unclear:

You Erased a hardrive (or volume), Installed the 10.3 from the original Install Disk, ran Software Update to 10.34, then you installed only 7.0 from original Install CD, and PS hangs on the fonts?

If so, I find that very hard to believe…even if you did not run any of the several PS7 updaters, PS should still launch???

yes that is true, I have this Ibook I take into work, I work nights and its dead sometime, why else would I spend my time doing this ..for fun ??, At home I have my G5 1,6 , I have installed PS onto that without a problem.

I am not lying.

BTW, you’re welcome, font trouble shooting is one of the most tedious issues to debug (and explain).

PS:

We are just trying to get on the same page 🙂

ok, OS 10.3.4 has a programme called fontbook, i have never used it but I beleive it works in the background as the OS font management system, Withing fontbook you can choose what fonts you want to have started or not, I have made every single font deactive but PS still crash’s on start up when reading fonts….grhhhhhhh

Again, sorry for your reality check 🙂

Chris Cox, #1 poster, is an Adobe engineer, I would pay very close attention to what he wrote…

Does the problem clear in a Spare User?
<http://www.gballard.net/psd/troubleshootpurgepsd.html> there is some font stuff here also, but from what you said, Erase/OS/PS only, there is something else going on…

Did you copy anything (such as your User files) back to the freshly-wiped HD from a previous installation?

by spare user do you mean opening PS in another user account created in OS X, ? if so that doesnt make a difference, :-(, If I new what the corrupt fonts were I would remove them but since I tried with all fonts off ????…

Hmm – that crashed in OS code, trying to get the machine time zone.

Try setting the system clock and time zone (there have been some reports of flakiness due to corrupt timezone settings).

In case ur going brain dead…

Photoshop CS (8.0) not opening, crashing on launching, under Panther 10.3.2, Wade wrote:

Try changing the time zone then change it back to the correct time zone that you are in but first trash your PS Preference, if that does not work try changing the City within the time zone and then change it back. Or some kind of combination. But again, each time trash PS preferences maybe even restarting the computer.

Ann Shelbourne added, if you are in the UK, don’t choose GMT but choose your nearest city by name.
