Can I safely uninstall PS CS?

I have noticed that after installing CS2 upgrade version, the former CS stayed intact on my hard drive. The CS2 upgrade is actually a full version with its own serial #. Now my question is whether it would be safe to uninstall the old CS version from my computer? Thanks for your help.
