I’m restoring this photograph, and I’m looking for options for improving his white suit. The blown out exposure and the fading have eliminated most of the detail. What are some methods to address this issue as effectively as possible?

thank you,

jm

I suggest posting your image to this group

who specialise in restoration work! It would mean opening a Flickr account, but that won’t be difficult and is free!!

Is that the working scan ?

I had a play but I don’t think there is enough actual detail in the scan to enhance

that’s a really good effort, especially in so little time. that’s basically what i came up with on the suit, although i didn’t create as much detail.

thank you.

Where did you get those shoes? I can’t find them in the original.

Paint it.

I thought the main idea was to bring out information in the original, only adding detail that was obviously worn away. Painting in original details seems sorta like cheating.

Don’t get me wrong, your effort looked damn good to my amateur eyes, except for those shoes.

Yes, I understand that. I didn’t post it with the intention of people working with that image, although I very much appreciate those who took the initiative to do so. I just wanted a sample image for discussion reasons.

If people want to work with this image, I’ll be glad to make a larger one available.
