converting bmps to jpegs

I have an Epson 4780 flatbed scanner and when I scan text using the Black and White setting at 150 dpi, it opens in CS2 as a BMP file, I can save it as a TIFF file and some other types, but not jpeg. Jpeg is handy for attaching images to emails that I send to people who don’t have elaborate image processing software. Is there any way to save a BMP file as a jpeg?

Please disregard this question. If I set the scanner to Grayscale instead of BW, jpeg shows up on the "save as"list
