Converting BMP to JPEG using Batch command in Photoshop 7

Hi,
I’m a relatively new user. I have a Minolta 5400 scanner and I want to convert scanned BMP files to JPEG. I red up on the Batch command in Photoshop 7 and was wondering if someone with experience could guide me through the steps. I am using XP and the scanned files have legnthy names.

Since I have a large number of scanned images, a batch conversion command would save significant time. If this is possible in Photoshop 7, How many BMP images can be converted using the batch command.

Any advice on specific image file names. I have been adding a letter followed by the month, year and slide number (10034534555-T-7-87-31).

You create an Action, then run the action in batch using File|Automate|Batch.

Open a dummy image. Record the steps of Save As… go all the through actually saving the dummy image, stop recording.

Next to the action name, there’s a little square – it toggles the dialog for this action on and off; make sure it’s toggled OFF.

File|Automate|Batch…

Action to run: The one you just created
Source Files: Folder
Choose: Pick the folder containing the files to convert

Destination: Folder
Choose: Pick a folder to put them in
Override Action Save As Informaiton: CHECKED

In the dropdown boxes pick the naming convention you like; the boxes read from left to right, top to bottom; make sure the last box you use says "extension". Example: Filename:10034534555-T-7-87-31:extension.

Hit Go, and go get a cup of coffee. Each image in the source folder will open one by one and save as your chosen file format, then close.

Great info to have if one has a lot of BMP files. Just adding a word that ACDsee converts BMP or anything just about to whatever you want. It is real easy when you have just a few.
