I have scanned an image into photoshop that I now need to trace the outline of and turn into a line drawing.(It’s a logo that we’re going to transfer over to a CAD program and have cut out of steel) Can I do this in Photoshop or do I need to buy yet another program?

Yes. Use the Pen Tool. Are you familiar with Bezier curves? Help file has a section on it.

Depending on the image it self Adobe makes a fabulous program just for this type of work. It’s called (Streamline). It will take scanned images and turn them into (editable) vector images. This IS what you want to do….the easy way….very easy way.

I strongly suggest you try it out especially if you do this type of work frequently. Be patient … a little tweaking goes a long way with Streamline. If you do this type of work in Photoshop you may find yourself taking a considerable amount of time to do what Streamline will do in a matter of seconds.

Also Flash has an excellent (Trace Bitmap) function that will convert bitmap, Photoshop, etc images to editable vector line images.
