Creating paths in photoshopCS for windonws

How do I stop Photoshop putting in an automatic fill onto the curved path I am creating? I only want the curved path but get a fill and new shape vector path as well. Stupid question I know but would appreciate reply.

in the pen tool options bar: on the set of options on the left, select the middle option box.
