Photoshop 8.0-Marquee tool quandry

Just loaded the new program…. and the marquee tool has taken it upon itself to have ROUNDED edges… hpow do I change it to SQUARE?

Also noticed when I used the tool to select a section and plug into another- it has a "Soft edge effect". How do I stp that, too?

Why in the world would teh program load for teh first time with such silly presets?

Change feather values to zero. These are not the defaults. Are you sure you didn’t do something to set the feather?

Change feather values to zero. These are not the defaults. Are you sure you didn’t do something to set the feather?

All I did was load the program. Have not touched ANYTHING.

Evidently the feathering was the issue… for some arcane reason the program loaded and set a feathering at 8 px. Something I have never dealt with before when it came to the marquee tool.

One wonders what other fresh hells await in 8.0…..
