I have a calendar template in .gif format, I want to place a photo in it for printing, how do I do this?
Have tried copying the photo file to clipboard and pasting, that did not work, can’t make import or place command work either.

Thanks

Jim, go to the menu bar – "Image" and change "Mode" to "RGB"

???? I don’t know how that happened, unless you pasted over the single existing (background) layer somehow.

Open the GIF again. Change it to RGB mode. Then take Layer – New – New Layer. And now paste or open the image you want to insert and paste it into the new layer.

If you are pasting from the clipboard, and the outcome is an all-black image, then my guess is that you copied the picture from stream-media. There’s a work-around that allows you to copy from a streamed image, but I forgot what it is.

That is because GIF files are "indexed color." You have to convert to RGB (Image->Mode->RGB) first.

How large is the black box you pasted in in comparison with the calendar image?
