photoshop 5.5 and plugins

I’ve loaded a batch of photoshop plugins. They are available in the filters menu, but photoshop says that it does not recognize the extension or otherwise doesnt know which program to use to open them.
Strange because these plugin filters are design for use with photoshop 3 and above. Any hints?

I have a list of recent documents always show up when I click on the file tab. At the very bottom not only my current image file is listed but a few from years ago. Don’t know how to get rid of them.
Ideas?
