My beloved Epson Stylus C80 bit the dust (no slam on the Epson, I simply ran it to death printing images from my 10D). After several days of research and consideration I just bought the HP photosmart 7960 printer.
To say I am stunned with the output would not be overstating the case. I haven’t done any particular calibration or anything and after doing a test printing (on HP’s Premium Plus Glossy Photo Paper) of three 8×10 photos (one in black/white) and four 4×6 photos (one in black/white) I can barely believe the how good the prints look. I still consider the Epson’s output to be very good, but it is simply outclassed in every way by the new machine.
Two nitpicks
1) Damn it takes up a lot of desk space!
2) The lever to switch between the 8×10 tray and the 4×6 tray (you can load both at once) seems a little flimsy.
After I’ve had it a while I’ll post again with a longer term review.
