What I’m referring to is them expecting their files to be usable "as provided", which isn’t the case. It’s not necessarily their fault they don’t know what they’re doing. They are led to believe that anyone can do it with 5 minutes of training.
If the files meet our specs, a customer can save the artwork prep charge. So they knock themselves out trying, but most examples are atrocious. They end up with cards/brochures that look like they were designed by Helen Keller.
People CAN also save $$$ by giving themselves a tattoo, but I’m sure they won’t be as happy with the result as if they went to a pro. A sketch is great, as long as everyone knows it’s a stepping stone.

Nothing wrong with getting an idea of what they want. I don’t care how much time they spent on it, if it helps me to give them the closest thing to what they wanted, I’m all for it!
I’m a tattoo artist, but its no different than what you are talking about. I just reproduce the images into skin instead of on paper.
