Duplicate Layer Problem

I have been using Photohop for at least 6 months now, and just recently I have been experiencing a problem with the duplicate layers option. Every time I try to duplicate a layer, photoshop locks up and wont let me do anything, including close the program. Does anyone know how to fix it?

rick, when photoshop gets wierd, first thing to try is resetting the prefrences. there’s procedure in the FAQ section of the forum. please check it out.
