When I went to open Photoshop today the splash screen displayed as normal then before the program loaded it disappeared. The program never loaded. I ctrl+alt+del and do not see it active at all.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, hoping I had a problem with a corrupt file. No luck. I then reinstalled to a different directory – no luck again.

If I double click on an image registered to open in Photoshop it opens the splash screen and boom, it disappears.

Memory is fine, I have not installed anything on my machine in weeks and I do not have a virus.

Any help would be appreciated. I have a big project to get out today and I am helpless!

Thanks,
Kim

Reset your preferences (see the procedure in the faq). Give us a shout if that doesn’t fix it 🙂

Helen:
I’ve tried several times, however I can’t seem to even get that far. Alt+Ctrl+Shift is not working. The splash screen is only up and rolling for about 4 seconds – seems like it makes it to "initializing bushes" and then it’s gone.

Is there a way to manually reset the preferences? Could there be another explanation for the problem?

Thanks – Kim

Here’s where they are on my machine:

C:\Documents and Settings\R Levine\Application
Data\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0\Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings

I was able to manually delete the preference file on the hard drive and that seemed to do the trick – very weird – thansk for the help Helen!

Cool- glad you sorted it. You have to be very quick to get the prefs to reset with the ctrl + alt + shift trick. I press them before I open the program and keep them pressed until I get the pop up.
