I have used the lasso tool but it takes forever, is there a easire way to cut and image so I can place in a better background.

Have you tried using the Quick Mask tool or Filter>Extract yet? I find both of these relatively easy to use.

Yes – use a layer mask.

Copy and paste the object you want to place, and delete its layer mask.

Make a rough selection with the lasso, and create a new layer mask that reveals the selection. Click on the layer mask in the layers palette. Paint black to erase around the edges of the object you want to place, and white to un-erase it. Use the X key to switch between the two colors.

If you’re going to do this often, or if there is hair or other fine detail, learn to use the extract tool – this will save a lot of time and give a better result than hand painting.
