I created a rollover button in ImageReady and saved it as a psd which I hadn’t done in awhile, so my question is can I go back in and edit that psd? I need to make more buttons, so I need to change the wording on the button. I’ve tried editing the button, but nothing is working. Should I have saved the button in something other than a psd to edit it again?

"nothing is working." is a bit vague. What exactly isn’t working? My guess would be that you don’t have "live" (editable) type in your psd. There is no more editable format than psd.

I thought saving as a psd would allow me to edit the button and all of it’s layers, but when I try to use the Type Tool to change the word on the button it won’t let me and if I try deleting the word layer, it deletes the word and the color background.

Look in the layers palette, see if the type is editable, there should be a ‘T’ visible.

Otherwise the layer has been rasterised or flattened. If rasterised you can delete the layer and use the type tool to recreate the button’s text.

Note that if you Merge a Type Layer with another Layer it will rasterize the type and render it ineditable. That’s assuming you had editable type in the first place. If you used the Type Mask tool it will not be editable.
