Thank you for the respose. however, I don’t have that file on my computer…should I?
Cheers,
Paul
P.S. The problem only occurs when selecting the "save web" from the "File" menu. The program works fine otherwise.

a fix and found it. If you use Win 95 & 98 and the problem only occurs
as
Photoshop is loading after the "ICC engine" initialization has occured
then
the following will fix your problem. Go into the :/Windows/System/Color directory and remove file "VALVE17.ICM". Either place it into another
folder
or delete it. Once this is done Photoshop should start without a
problem.
I
believe this file has something to do with a Philips monitor driver.
After
removing the "Valve17.icm" file I didn’t have any problems with any
other
equipment so I assume its safe to remove it. Good luck
I have no help to offer to the original poster, but I did also have Problems with Photoshop 5.5 or 6.01 under Win9xSE, which were caused by the same ‘valve17.icm’ monitor color profile. In my case, Photoshop closed at some point during its startup, it just vanished off the screen (without an error message) either prior to, while, or right after loading the icc profiles (don’t remember).
The problem was solved when I deleted (changed the extension to .bak) the valve17.icm file. I have a Philips 107G 17 inch CRT. The valve17.icm is of no use, especially since you’ll create your own monitor profile using the Adobe Gamma Wizard.
