I am working on a project to convert a standard photo to 3-D with instructions from JPL’s Mar’s Multimission Image Processing Laboratory. The latest step instructs me to click on the Windows Menu Bar and choose "channels" to highlight the blue and green channels. It isn’t there! Can you tell me how to or where to, access channels in the Windows Menu Bar; or an alternative step to complete this task. I have both Photoshop Elements 1 and 2. Damn if I can find it.

The site I have obtained the instructions from is:
<http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/spotlight/3d01.html>

Thanks in advance for any assistance or directions you can provide to me.

Frank,

The bad news is that Channels is a function which was "hindered" in Elements. You can’t access Channels directly as you can in full Photoshop.

There are free add-ins available which will give you the ability to add a Channel Mixer layer, but I don’t know if they would interchange, functionally, with the usage of Channels in the JPL’s instructions.

Check out http://home.cogeco.ca/~challenge/Links.html in the Free Tools section. The two which I’ve used are the Paul Shipley , and the Hidden Power. Both work, but I prefer the Hidden Power for other reasons.

Frank, Byron is right Elements doesn’t have channels. I looked at the image created on the web site. I know of a freeware filter that will do that. It’s at <http://freephotoshop.com>. You may have to do a bit of digging but it’s under downloads, free plug-ins, pick names for category. Look for Corrective. One of the two freeware plug-ins from this zip is "Unfringe". Looks just like this Nasa’s tutorial image. Filter has sliders so you can do manual adjustments. I think it would be worth your while to download this filter set.

Hi Terri, I am finally getting used to OS X and am downloading and installing more filters here. PSE runs so really fast on my new Mac!
Thanks for reminding me to get Flaming Pear on to this computer. Been so busy I haven’t had a chance to be looking at the forum much except at night. Jane
