Dark gradient is not smooth

Hi everyone,

While doing a gradient from black to a mid grey for a big print (about ten feet high in 100dpi), i get a very rough gradient with lots of lines in it.
1) why won’t my gradient display smoothly?
2) is it likely that it might come out like this once printed?

1) try adding some noise
2) might (your display is 8bit)
[it may help to make the gradient in 16bit, add noise, go to 8bit, print]

Doesn’t look as nice on the screen, but I’m sure it’ll look good once printed..
