Hi,

I’m trying to save an imge for the web to match the website’s background colour. That works perfectly when saving the image as a GIF file through the "Save for Web" feature. However, when saving it as a PNG file (which I want) the background is lighter.

Why is that and how can I fix it?
Many thanks.

Actually, the PNG seems to display correctly in Safari but not in Firefox (where the colour is way off)

So, what is happening?

It’s a longstanding Internet Explorer bug in the handling of the PNG gAMA chunk.
The bug persists even in IE7.

If you remove the gAMA chunk your image should match the background. Or if
you view the image with Firefox, Mozilla, Opera (anything but IE) it’ll be OK.

Do a search here and on the web for PNG + Gamma. I think there is some problem with the PNG format gamma, but can’t recall.
