I can’t seem to get any consistent results out of it and I can’t see any use for it.

Extract is not a Photoshop Elements tool. Try the Photoshop forum.

Mark,

I’m curious … I keep hearing people talk about Extract. So just what does it do?

Wendy,

It’s one of Photoshop’s selection tools. You could do a google search for Photoshop + extract tool and see a little more about it.

Well, I got curious so I did the search

I know the secret! After you do the extraction, take your history brush and put it in the box that is right above it. It’s labeled duplicate image in my case…not sure if that’s because I have it set up to create a snapshot of opening image or not. At any rate just use your paint brush and with the default b and w just paint in or out the stray pixels. It’s like magic!
