i’m not sure if this is the correct forum for my question or not . . . was working on a file in photoshop 7.0, and while it was in the middle of saving the file, it froze and i had to use ctrl-alt-del to end it and restart it. however, since it was in the middle of a save, that file i was saving is no longer there. it simply doesn’t exist. in it’s place is a file called ~ps3E.tmp. i’m assuming this has something to do with the save and with the file i lost. is it possible to recover my lost TIF using this tmp file, or something else? thanks a lot!

You may want to try a file recovery utility to try to get your file back.

And I know it’s too late for this file, but this is why I recommend saving increments of your file as you go along rather than just always saving over.

If the file was never created, there isn’t going to be anything you _can_ recover.

Remember to save early and often.

It won’t hurt anything if you change the extension or the entire name of the .tmp file and try to open it, but don’t hold your breath…

Thanks. Yes, I know I _should_ save increments like you recommend, but . . .

Anyway, know any good share/freeware file recovery utilities?

The file was created; I was making some adjustments to a pre-existing file.

YES! I changed the extension from .tmp to .tif, and it opened just fine! Thanks, guys.
