As I have understood, that cache is used for caching images when zooming. It’s interesting, how used video memory (installed on video card board)? For working, is there any difference between, for example, video card with 64 Mb or 256 Mb of memory?

Photoshop itself doesn’t use the video card RAM at all. That’s left up to the OS.

How about GPU callouts? Are these through the OS too?

We too had similar problems. We wasted enormous amounts of time and energy trying to get CS2 fixed (do a search for my posts), all to no avail.

After about 5 months of wrangling, we threw in the towel and got a refund from Adobe.

You may want to save yourself the frustration and just return the product, too. Trust me, CS2 is not worth the hassle.
