Adding Color Values

Good question! I was trying to figure it out and I think I know the answer. At first, I just added the two values together in hexadecimal on a calculator and entered the value into the color picker, but it was waaaay off. Then I tried subtracting the lesser one from the greater one and again it wasn’t even close. Then I tried what I think works. There may be a way easier way to do this but this is what I did:
a.. Have both colors handy where you can mouse over them.
b.. Open the info panel (Window >Info) and mouse over one of the colors. Write down the RGB values. These values also appear in the color picker. Either method will do. Here’s the values:
a.. #87B1DB: R=135 G=177 B=219
b.. #4989C7: R=73 G=137 B=199
c.. Now add the two R values, the two G values and the two B values and then divide each by two to find the mean value: which is R= (135+73)/2 or 104, G=(177+137)/2 or 157 B=(219+199)/2 or 209
d.. Enter those values into the RGB color picker fields an Voila! You end up with an RGB Hex #689DD1.
If anyone has an easier method let me know. But this way didn’t take long at all.

Hi Guys,
This is actually quite easy to do, the following are the steps;
1. Create a layer for each color you want to mix and fill each layer with
the respective color.
2. Navigate to the layer on top and change the opacity or the fill color to 50%, the bottom layer stays at 100% and thus you have 50% of each color, doing this produced the same result much faster #689DD1.

This principle works in RGB with mixing 3 colors also, in such case you would you would make 3 layers each with the respective colors, the bottom layer is always at 100%, however now both layers above the bottom are set to an opacity of 33.33%.

I tested this with serveral combinations and it work like a charm.

If you’re using CMYK you can do the same with up to 4 coloors and as low as 25% for each.
