Can’t Color Text

Before I create a new file, my color palettes show a number of colors. However, as soon as I open a new file, they change to black and white. When I try to change the colors, they turn to grey even though I can see the colors in the palette…any help would be appreciated!

Jim,

It sounds like your new files are opening in grayscale mode. Go to Image > Mode and change from grayscale to RGB (or CMYK if it’s for commercial printing).
