Converting NEF RAW in PS 7?

I just got a Nikon DSLR and would like to shoot in RAW – which, I gather, is in a special format for Nikons – they call it NEF-RAW.

I am under an impression that there is a plug in for PS which will enable it to read these files from Nikon but I don’t know where to find it or if it will work with PS 7.

I know that I can purchase a special program made by Nikon to convert their RAW file, but it is over $100 and I’m
hoping to avoid this.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Louise

There used to be a Camera RAW plugin for Photoshop 7, that you had to buy separately for $ 99. Unfortunately, Adobe stopped supplying it when Photoshop CS came out, and it has not been updated for newer Nikon cameras anyway, so it would probably be useless for your camera. Nikon supplies a (rather simple) plugin themselves. It should be on the software CD that camera with your camera.

Nikon Capture $100+ at my local photo store where I bought the camera.

I’m choosing to upgrade to Photoshop CS3 instead.
